Amy Larsen

Inaugural Class of 2009

Amy Larsen grew up in Ankeny with her parents, two little brothers and four different cats (not at the same time). Amy attended the University of Northern Iowa where she focused on political science and professional writing and was a member of the competitive speech team. She enjoyed traveling around the Midwest and occasionally other regions to give informative speeches, poetry programs, and rhetorical criticisms on topics most people had never thought about (for good reason).

After graduating from UNI in 2003, Amy went south for graduate school. Two years at the University of Texas at Austin were enough to fall in love with the city! However, Iowa beckoned to Amy in the form of a city management internship with the City of West Des Moines. She has been with the City since July 2005, first becoming Management Assistant and now Management Assistant/Communications Specialist. There is an informal contest at City Hall to determine what to add after the next slash in her title so that it will never again fit on a name badge.

Amy lives in West Des Moines and spends most of her free time playing on the Vance Refrigeration Kickball team, reading, participating in weddings, and cheering on the Longhorns, Panthers, and the Hawkeyes in whatever sport is in season.
