Philip Blumberg

Class of 2010

Phil Blumberg has served as Director of Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology and the CyberKnife Radiosurgery Center of Iowa since 2007. Phil joined Mercy after completing a post-graduate fellowship and working as an administrator at North Shore–Long Island Jewish Health System in the New York City metropolitan area. At Southside Hospital he was instrumental in the development of the Harvey Cushing Institute of Neurosciences and the Orthopedic Institute where he served as director and interim director respectively in addition to his roles as director of the pain management and wound care clinics, and director of corporate compliance. In his current role, Phil provides strategic planning, financial and business development, leadership and direction for a staff of 45 employees and 6 physicians at Iowa’s largest radiation therapy clinic and the only CyberKnife center in the state.

Phil currently volunteers his serving on the board of three community organizations; Prevent Blindness Iowa, West Des Moines Leadership Academy and Urban Dreams. He grew up in the greater Des Moines area and graduated from Valley High School. He is a graduate of The University of Iowa, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Interdepartmental Studies in Gerontology with a certificate in Aging Studies, and completed his Masters in Health Administration in 2004, also from The University of Iowa. Phil resides in West Des Moines with his wife Jenny and 2 dauthers, Mia and Zara.
