Orientation and Situational Leadership Training
Place: DeWaay Conference Center. 13001 University Ave., Clive
6:15 p.m. Dinner served at The Club Car restaurant, 13435 University Ave.
The concept of one-size-fits-all should not apply to leadership. This program will present participants with a model that will enable them to be more adaptable and effective leaders. Participants will discover their preferred style and the skills they will need to expand their leadership repertoire and more effectively develop their staff.

Speaking for Success/The History and Economic Development of West Des Moines
Place: Fire Creek Grill, 800 S. 50th Street, West Des Moines
4:40 p.m. Board motor coach for tour of West Des Moines.
6:15 p.m. Dinner served at Fire Creek Grill.
Effective presentation skills, presented by Deborah Rinner, Tero International. Presentation skills rank high on the lists of the qualities we value in others and others value in us. In spite of the strong awareness we all seem to have for the importance of communication skills, the average person does not communicate well.
City officials will provide commentary on key historic events and sites of interest during the bus tour. Clyde Evans, Director of Community and Economic Development will present.

Emotional Intelligence/Health Care
Place: Mercy West Lakes Campus. 59th Place & University

6:15 p.m. Dinner will be served at and is graciously provided by Methodist West Hospital.
Emotional Intelligence, presented by Todd McDonald, ATW Training. In this session we will discuss the growing body of science in the emerging field of emotional intelligence (EI), indicating that proper understanding—and use of—emotions can be critical to helping us be more effective leaders and better communicators.
A panel of five executives representing Mercy West Lakes, Methodist West, Iowa Heart Center, Iowa Clinic and the YMCA Healthy Living Center will present information on their facilities and services, brief commentary on their own views on leadership and then open up to Q & A .

6:15 p.m. Reception at Sheraton Hotel, 1800 50th Street, West Des Moines.
Conflict Management, presented by Rita Perea, Rita Perea Consulting. All high-performing teams experience a certain amount of tension and conflict. All exceptional leaders wonder, “When is the conflict damaging to my team’s productivity?” “When should I step in?” Through this presentation participants will learn how to help teams move through, resolve and grow from conflicts.
A panel of executives representing West Des Moines non-profit organizations, cultural entities and community events like the Hy-Vee Triathlon will present information on their organizations, services and ways to get involved.

Performance Coaching, presented by Tammy Rogers and Melynda DeCarlo, The Meyvn Group. The word “coaching” is constantly being tossed around in the business world today. But should leaders be coaches? How does coaching help an organization? And what does effective coach look like? This course will provide leaders with the coaching skills they need to develop others and improve organizational performance.

Performance Coaching presented by Monte Wyatt, Action Coach. This program will help you improve yourself and your team through performance based coaching. Be ready to focus on creating your model for giving feedback for improvement that focuses on behavior, the effects, expectations, and results. This topic will be interactive to help you look at yourself and those you work with in a new light of personal growth.
A panel representing different West Des Moines academia will present information on their organizations, their services, areas in which they excel and how they contribute to the West Des Moines community.

City Governance/Fish Banks
Place: Council Chambers. West Des Moines City Hall. 4200 Mills Civic Parkway, WDM
4:45 – 7:15 The FISH BANKS, LTD. simulation is a group process involving analytic reasoning, negotiation, and collective decision making.
6:15: Pizza will be served as a working dinner in this session.
City government is the community topic and City Manager, Jeff Pomeranz and Mayor, Steven Gaer will be on hand to share information about the inner workings of the city, its elected and appointed officials, and the organizations involved in keeping West Des Moines city government running smoothly.
The FISH BANKS, LTD. simulation is a group process involving analytic reasoning, negotiation, and collective decision making. The group role-playing simulation is designed to apply group problem solving skills and higher order thinking skills.

Selling Your Ideas/Leadership–Up Close & Personal
Place: GuideOne Insurance Company. 1111 Ashworth Road.
4:45: A panel of CEOs and West Des Moines business leaders, representing diverse organizations, will speak on their own styles of leadership.
6:15: Dinner will be served at Q Barbecue, 1250 8th St.
Selling Your Ideas, presented by Todd McDonald, ATW Training. You can persuade any audience! How is that some people not only have ideas—but get them implemented? Successful individuals understand how to influence others and sell their ideas in a manner that gets buy in and gets the audience to take action.
A panel of five to seven CEOs and West Des Moines business leaders, representing diverse organizations – from large corporations to small or midsize businesses, will speak on their own style of leadership, on the traits they see as most important to being a strong leader, etc. Expect lots of interaction in this class!

Unstoppable Teams, presented by Tammy Rogers and Melynda DeCarlo, The Meyvn Group. This program allows the participants to discover how teams develop, collaborate, communicate and solve problems. They will also experience how individual and team behaviors impact results. It will be a day of engagement and hands-on learning that can easily be transferred back to the real world.
