Born in SE Iowa, raised in Michigan, which I consider my "home" state. A 1982 graduate of the University of Michigan, I entered the banking world where I cut my teeth for the first 14 years of my career (Comerica Bank out of Detroit, Norwest Card Services - now Wells Fargo Card Services in Des Moines, and First Bank in Minneapolis). I then entered the world of insurance when I joined Midwest Mutual, a sister company to Preferred Risk, now GuideOne, where I've been employed for the past 12+ years. As a director of systems implementation, I'm responsible for leading large scale efforts to modernize our policy administration infrastructure.
I've been happily married to Dawn since 1984 and have two amazing young boys (Kellen, 13 and Cory, 11). We are active members of Lutheran Church of Hope where we've come to know many of our close friends here in the West Des Moines community.
For sideline activities I'm an avid golfer, reader, runner/biker, and when the schedule allows I act onstage at a variety of locales including most often the Des Moines Playhouse. My oldest son has also acquired the acting bug, at a much earlier age than I did mind you, and it's been a special treat to share the stage with him on two different occassions, most recently in The Hobbit.
I look forward to my experience with the West Des Moines Leadership Academy, getting to know my fellow classmates, and putting what we learn during our time together into action on behalf of our community.
