Iowa Health System presents WDMLA 2010 graduation

Former Iowa Senator Mary Kramer is keynote speaker

The West Des Moines Leadership Academy's Class of 2010 will graduate on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at a ceremony to be held at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club in West Des Moines. Mary E. Kramer will be the keynote speaker. The event is being presented by Iowa Health System and IHS President/CEO Bill Leaver will provide remarks at the ceremony. The Academy is both delighted and proud to have Iowa Health System as the presenting sponsor for this year's ceremony.

Mary Kramer is a former Republican Iowa State Senator who served from 1990 to 2003. She was elected President of the Senate in 1997, becoming the first independently elected woman to fill the post. In 2003 Kramer was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; she was confirmed by the United States Senate and served from 2004 to 2006.

Leaver became President and Chief Executive Officer in 2008. Prior to becoming CEO of Iowa Health System, he served as President and CEO at Trinity Regional Health System in Rock Island, Illinois, for almost seven years. He also held several senior executive positions at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. Leaver has a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and a master's degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
