Russ Trimble
Inaugural Class of 2009
Russ Trimble, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, moved to Des Moines in 1990 to attend Drake University. While at Drake, he received a varsity letter in basketball as well as an athlete scholar award. In 1994, Russ graduated from Drake with a major in International Relations and a minor in Spanish. In 1997, he returned to Drake where in a little over one year, he received his Master’s Degree, with honors, in Public Administration with a focus on state and local government administration.
After receiving his Master’s Degree, Russ took a position with the City of Des Moines Housing Services before accepting a position with the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau as a Fiscal Analyst. In 2006, toward the end of an unsuccessful run for West Des Moines City Council, Russ moved into his current position as a Legislative Analyst for the Iowa Senate Republican Caucus where he provides research and analysis of bills and amendments that come before the Committees on Economic Growth, Commerce, Government Oversight, and Human Resources.
Russ is a Patron level donor to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines, is involved with the YMCAs Partnership with Youth, is a member of West Des Moines Kiwanis, was appointed by Mayor Meyer to the West Des Moines Human Services Advisory Board where he served as the board’s secretary, vice chair, and chair, and is currently the President of the Delta Omicron Chapter Housing Corp. Board of Trustees for the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Russ and his wife Alana have been married for 8 years and have 4 children ages 7, 5, 3, and 19 months.
