About the Academy
The West Des Moines Leadership Academy (WDMLA) is an intensive, regionally-oriented leadership development program designed to give potential and emerging leaders the skills, knowledge, and on-going support they need to succeed in the West Des Moines community. It is designed for outstanding individuals who desire to sharpen their leadership skills and gain a greater understanding of the region’s economy and community networks. While many fine national leadership development programs exist, we offer a regionally-focused program—taught by local leaders for local leaders.
The Academy was developed in 2007, and the inaugural class participated in 2008 and 2009.
Mission
The West Des Moines Leadership Academy will:
- Provide an opportunity to develop and enhance leadership skills.
- Educate participants regarding issues facing our community.
- Stimulate increased participation and service for the betterment of our West Des Moines community.
Vision
The West Des Moines Leadership Academy will be recognized as the premier organization in developing leaders to direct and ensure quality living for residents, businesses and organizations of West Des Moines.
Class size and representation
Class size is limited to provide the best environment for interaction, real-life applications and outstanding learning. Each class will be comprised of participants representing a cross-section of the community.
